Originally opened in 1926 as a single screen movie house, the Uptown received an Art Moderne facelift in the 40s, including its present marquee.

It currently operates as part of the Loews Cineplex chain, and has been divided into three auditoriums, two seating about 170, and the largest, just under 500.

The Uptown screens first-run features, leaning towards art films. It is one of the oldest Loews Cineplex movie houses in the country.
