An unforgettable debut feature from Poland. Thirty-something Edi (though he looks 60) is a marginal guy whose sincerity makes him a tool for others to use. He and his friend Jurek collect junk and live on the money they make from scrap-metal. Edi also collects books, storing them in a battered refrigerator. This Rembrandt-toned film glides from one scene to the next flawlessly.
