The Sea (2002)
109 minutes

A wicked and delightful dysfunctional family drama served on ice where jagged lives match jagged landscapes. Baltasar Kormakur’s (“Reykjavik 101”) new film is set in a remote-fishing village where a wealthy aging patriarch, Thordur, assembles his scattered flock to discuss the future of his fishing business. Soon he discovers that all three of his tart-mouthed children have their own agendas, and that family secrets have a way of unraveling in plain sight. Iceland’s entry to the 2003 Academy Awards.
