Surplus (2003)
54 minutes
US Premiere

Are we terrorized into being consumers? Is shopping our salvation? Since the WTO protest in Seattle, media focus has shifted to the judicial aftermath. “Surplus” is a symphonic mediation with style, rhythm, pluck and verve, starting its odyssey during the chaotic days of the G8 summit in Genoa. John Zerzan, author of “Future Primitive” and “Mass Psychology of Misery,” is featured with interpretations on why the lifestyle of consumerism is such a source of rage. Screens with “X Marks the Spot” (24 MINUTES).

Short Features: Scenes from an Endless War (2001–2002) (Norman Cowie, USA) Clips from post-September 11th America chronicling battles both foreign and domestic. X Marks the Spot (Karl Brandstater, Australia) An insightful look into American work and family life, from an outsider point of view.
