War (2001)
120 minutes

Overshadowed by recent events in the Middle East, the war in Chechnya persists. A Chechen rebel group takes hostages and detonates bombs in southern Russia, the Russian army tries to repress the rebellion with scorched-earth brutality and two British citizens find themselves caught in the middle. In his controversial new film, writer-director Balabanov explores the savagery, vagaries and corruption of war.
